Microsoft Vista does not like to have a program and its associated databases in the same folder!

(This has been a long-term goal of Microsoft, but now they're enforcing it--sort of...)

If you are running Vista and you want to transfer your data to another computer, you may run into a snag.  You are convinced you transferred the databases (CHARTERSUITE.MDB and AIRPORTS.MDB) properly from your old computer to the new one, yet when you run CharterSUITE, it's not current data.  What gives!?

You may have thought you were copying the databases that were in use, but these had been copied previously to a "virtualstore" folder on your hard drive and were actually being run from there.

An application such as CharterSUITE that requires write access into program files sees c:\program files\CharterSUITE, but it's really in c:\users\[stephen]\AppData\VirtualStore\Program Files\CharterSUITE

So, if you want to copy it from a Vista computer to another, grab these databases from the ...\VirtualStore\.... folder.

So, you found the proper files to copy, but here's another twist:

You might think you can simply DRAG these into your destination c:\program files\CharterSUITE folder, but you first must paste them into another folder.  That's because, in Vista, when dragging files into a folder where a matching file already exists, it will prompt you if you would like to create a copy of the file or replace it.  The answer is to Replace it.

Now you know....
